SEWA (Serving Elders With Affection)

SEWA (Serving Elders With Affection) is a comprehensive social welfare project of Snehbharat Trust NGO, dedicated to supporting elderly individuals with dignity, compassion, and continuous care. The project focuses on senior citizens who are economically vulnerable, socially isolated, or lack regular family support.

In many communities, elderly individuals face food insecurity, financial hardship, and emotional neglect. The SEWA project aims to address these challenges by ensuring regular material support along with emotional well-being, enabling senior citizens to live with self-respect and security.

Through the SEWA (Serving Elders With Affection) project, Snehbharat Trust NGO is committed to creating a compassionate and inclusive society where elders are supported, respected, and cared for. By combining weekly ration support, pocket money assistance, and initiatives like the Bujurg Pathshala, the project aims to significantly improve the quality of life of senior citizens

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

  • To ensure food security for elderly individuals through weekly ration support.
  • To provide small financial assistance to elders for their personal and daily needs.
  • To promote dignity, independence, and emotional well-being among senior citizens.
  • To reduce loneliness and social isolation through meaningful engagement.
  • To encourage intergenerational bonding between elders and children.

PROJECT ACTIVITIES

  • Weekly Ration Distribution
Under the SEWA project, weekly ration kits containing essential food items are distributed to elderly beneficiaries. This regular support ensures consistent access to nutrition and reduces the stress of meeting basic food requirements.
  • Pocket Money Support
Along with ration kits, a small amount of money is provided as pocket money. This helps elders manage day-to-day expenses such as medicines, travel, or personal necessities, promoting independence and dignity.
  • Proposed Initiative: Bujurg Pathshala
As an extension of SEWA, Snehbharat Trust plans to introduce a “Bujurg Pathshala.” This initiative will create a welcoming space where elderly individuals can share their knowledge, life experiences, skills, stories, and traditional wisdom with children, if they wish.

The Bujurg Pathshala aims to:

  • Promote intergenerational learning and bonding
  • Provide elders with a sense of purpose and self-worth
  • Enable children to learn values, culture, and life lessons from elders
  • Reduce loneliness and improve emotional well-being among senior citizens
Participation in the Bujurg Pathshala will be completely voluntary, respecting the comfort, health, and interests of the elders.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

  • Improved nutritional and financial security for elderly beneficiaries
  • Enhanced emotional well-being and reduced social isolation
  • Stronger community bonds and mutual respect between generations
  • Recognition of elders as valuable contributors to society.
